While in agreement with Sherman Carter Barnhart, Civic assisted with overall community design and historical detailing consultation for the Louisville Metro Housing Authority’s ambitious Liberty Green Hope VI development.

In addition, Civic served as architect of record for the Liberty Green Community Center while also providing construction administration and LEED coordination services for the building.

Design for Liberty Green Community Center is a response to a number of factors. Requirements included that the facility be LEED Certified, sensitive to nearby architecture, and capable of delivering some of the most up-to-date ‘green’ design innovations available. The building houses LMHA offices, apartments, and a number of community facilities.

The solution devised by Civic meets these specific LMHA program requirements while offering a highly efficient building envelope, hybrid geothermal heating/cooling, and a number of other sustainable features. Massing, height, façade rhythms, and material choice respect surrounding architecture without being derivative. The LGCC received LEED Silver certification in May 2011. Since then the building has also received a 2011 Louisville Cornerstone Award, the 2011 KRMCA Concrete Design Award, and the Kentuckiana Masonry Institute 2010 Brick Award of Honor.
